John 14:23
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.”
Pursuing Christ is the mission all born-again Christians have been given. To pursue Him means to hear and obey Him day by day. The fruit of life—be it righteousness, serving God, prospering, wholeness, anointing—they all arise through Him.
In Luke 10, we observe that Jesus had two friends, Martha and Mary her sister. Mary was focused on being with Jesus and that was what she did, but Martha was divided as responsibilities were in her mind. But later, as she complained about Mary's disposition, Jesus replied to Martha:
"You are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
Following Christ is the narrow road through which we can drive to our eternal home safely, securely, successfully, and prosperously. It is not an option but a must-to-obey Scriptural directive. The Bible is filled with teachings of God’s dispute with His people and also judgment on those who disregard His orders. And as Christians, our guarantee for pleasing God, for knowing right/wrong and sin/righteousness, and to be enlightened with God's will—is Christ. Without Him we can do nothing.
As one pursues Christ, new things start to happen in the person's life. The most interesting one is the spiritual experience of His very presence. Once the saint captures His tangible Spirit, it will stay within the spirit. In fact, as the saint keeps on worshipping and pleasing God, this tangible and experiential communion between the saint and Christ's Spirit will increase more and more, bearing glory and power. The person will literally be a dwelling place of God's alive power. In Ezekiel 47, there is a river whose depth increased as Ezekiel moved further. In the same way, the experiential knowledge of God through Christ and His Spirit grows more and more as the saint keeps on being diligent and humble.
But what does it really mean to pursue Christ? It is wrought by obeying importantly crucial spiritual commandments.
-
The first is to choose and attend the Church—the place where Christ walks, touches, and visits His worshippers (Rev 1:20, Rev 2:1).
-
The second is to make studying and reading the whole Bible a regular task, setting a specific time during the day. As you read the Bible, it shapes your coming days with its authority, and it anoints you with spiritual gifts which you will have to nurture through prayer. The gift you receive will help you seek God with more power and joy.
-
The third is of course prayer and worship. It is the place and time where our spirit and soul gaze at God through praise and seeking. It is a growing experience which the worshipper only knows and sees. It is an art of spiritual contact which starts small but grows through time as the soul keeps on abiding in Him.
Many may think that such spiritual experience and powerful gift can make them a whole and mature person. Though it is part of what makes us perfect, it is not the only thing. There are other wisdoms and a lot of knowledge each of us has to be filled with in order to secure successful and righteous living. That's why it is important to hear God and know His will on every aspect of life.
Stay on this site and read more teachings that will help you understand the will of God—the key to your safety and success. The life we live in this world is all about doing His will through fear and reverence. We choose to prioritize His will against our will only if we fear Him. That is why it is stated:
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge" (Proverbs 1:7)
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10).
Our old self and the world are aligned against God's will. That's why we all need knowledge of how life works because the default knowledge we know will not take us far enough to the perfect Eternal Life. It will save you a lot of time and toil to impart spiritual grace from anointed servants of God so that your life's journey will be effective and secured. In fact, as members of Christ's body, we all need each other, which implies there are things we can't have or do without the help of other members. So use every opportunity to receive blessings and grace from spiritual family members God has given you through Jesus Christ!
